Mobile App for Spot checkers

To Spot Check cards you will need to have the following:
  1. A record created in SkillGuard 
  2. A valid subscription
  3. A Physical or Virtual SkillGuard Smart Card
  4. The correct status option set by your employer 
  5. The SkillGuard 5 Mobile App
    1. iOS: SkillGuard 5 on the App Store (apple.com)
    2. Android: SkillGuard 5 - Apps on Google Play
    Please contact your Employer Admin user if you do not have any of the above or are unsure.


A Spot Checker is a SkillGuard recordholder who is authorised to check and ensure cardholders working on site have authority to work there and that they hold the correct competencies for undertaking the work they are performing. Their SkillGuard record will have been flagged with the status Spot Check Only by their employer.
  1. Open the  SkillGuard 5 Mobile App, and Scan your physical smart card using the QR code, or by using NFC if this is enabled on your device, then select Proceed.
  2. Note: if you have downloaded Vircarda and registered your SkillGuard card on the same device you are using, there will be an option to either Use Vircarda or to scan your SkillGuard card.
  3. Enter the code and select OK. On the next screen, begin to set your location by selecting the Entity you are working on from the drop down list or menu presented. 
  4. Select the relevant Project, Site and Zone, then select Proceed.
  5. The next screen will present the Main Menu. To begin spot-checking recordholders SkillGuard cards or Visitor Passes, select Spot Check.
  6. The Spot Check screen will be displayed, ready for you to scan a cardholder’s card by any of the methods described above.
  7. Once a card has been scanned, the recordholder’s details will appear. Review the details presented to ensure the recordholder, for example, has authority to work, as well as holding the correct Job Roles and Competencies for the task they are performing. Do this by swiping across the top of the screen and selecting a tab to reveal the details held on the recordholder.
  8. Warnings will be displayed where:  Recordholder has no current Employer, Recordholder has no Sponsor (where this has been specified as a requirement on their SkillGuard Recordholder ’s card has been cancelled.
  9. Select Back and then Back again to return the Main Menu screen.
  10. When you have finished your shift, you should log out from the app to prevent an unauthorized person from accessing the app and your details. The log-out function is available in the sub-menu.
  11. To access the sub-menu, select the 3 dots in the top right corner to access additional sub-menu options:
  12. Log Out: Logs out the Spot Checker from the app. Note: For some devices, the sub-menu may be accessed at the bottom of the screen.
