Introduction to the SkillGuard 5 Mobile App

The SkillGuard 5 Mobile App is the app used by access controllers and card checkers to check cards electronically on site.

If you are a worker and only need to obtain a virtual card, please refer to guide for requesting a virtual card.
To use the SkillGuard 5 Mobile App you will need:
  1. A record created in SkillGuard 
  2. A valid subscription
  3. A Physical or Virtual SkillGuard Smart Card
  4. The correct status option set by your employer 
  5. The SkillGuard 5 Mobile App
    1. iOS: SkillGuard 5 on the App Store (apple.com)
    2. Android: SkillGuard 5 - Apps on Google Play
    Please contact your Employer Admin user if you do not have any of the above or are unsure.


The SkillGuard for Utilities mobile application (SkillGuard 5) can be used to:

  1. Support the reading of QR codes, Near Field Communication (NFC) on both Apple and Android devices. NFC enables the Access Controller to read the microchip embedded in the card. The benefit of this is that the chip can be read in situations where the user may be offline. 
  2. Read cards.
  3. Swiping in and out.
  4. Deny access to sites (manual or system).
  5. Award competencies.
  6. View shared competence file ie PDF.
  7. Spot check.
  8. All of the above, even if a recordholder has forgotten their card.
  9. Manage site location when performing Access Controller functionality, such as swiping in and out.

Minimum requirements for smart devices

Smart Device: iOS iPhones or iPads.

Minimum Requirements: iOS 11.0.

Smart Device: Android Phones and Tablets.

Minimum Requirements: Android 6.

Download the SkillGuard Mobile App: The mobile app is called: SkillGuard 5

The Mobile App can be downloaded from the Google or Apple App Stores. Download and install the app to your chosen and compatible device.
